Two years ago, Georgefest began as a relatively small street festival (then George Streetfest on Main) drawing a few hundred people. But ever since that first gathering in June of 2015, the crowds have continued to swell, the number of attractions has steadily increased, and the word has spread: Historic Downtown St. George is the place to be on the first Friday night of every month.

“Attending Georgefest is being immersed in southern Utah culture for one night each month, and the vibe is tangible,” said Georgefest Founder and Executive Director Melynda Thorpe. “For so many, this event has earned ‘must-go’ status and we are thrilled to see it become a favorite outdoor gathering venue for the local community.”

Georgefest achieved non-profit status in 2017, and now spans two city blocks on Main Street at Tabernacle. The best in local and regional indie rock bands can be found performing at the Main Street FREE Concert from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Additional regular features include the DJ Dance Party on Tabernacle Street, buskers performing for tips, food trucks, artists and crafters presenting items for sale, booths offering games and activities for kids, and much more.

Much of Georgefest’s success is attributed to its year-round consistency. Southern Utah residents and tourists alike have come to rely on first Friday nightlife entertainment at Historic Downtown.

One of the most significant signs of Georgefest’s growth and popularity has been its shift to a new venue for the Jazz Garden, presented by The Desert Pulse. Said Thorpe: “Now Jazz Garden guests 21 and over have plenty of room to enjoy sophisticated entertainment offerings – and dance if they want to – while sampling boutique wines, craft brews, tapas, and specialty sodas. It’s become a regular destination for couples date night, and a gathering place for groups of friends. Georgefest gives us a reason to get out one a month and enjoy our community.”

“The St. George Race Department is really looking forward to being a part of the June Georgefest anniversary celebration once again,” said Aaron Metler, City of St. George recreation coordinator, and one of the area’s most renowned runners. “Georgefest has turned into an extremely successful event that draws the entire community each month. Our team is really excited about partnering with Georgefest again this June, and presenting some really fun, healthy activities for everyone in the area.”

Georgefest – “nightlife you can get excited about” – gets underway at 6 p.m. on the first Friday of each month, with live music presented on Main Stage until 10 p.m., and in the Georgefest Jazz Garden until midnight. The Jazz Garden is located at Green Gate Village, next door to Judd’s Store on Tabernacle Street. Follow the searchlight, and come wish Georgefest a happy second birthday!
